As well as Cabbages and Cowpats, we also have some free DVDs that are suitable for older pupils or to help enthuse staff about Send a Cow’s work. There are two to choose from: Harvests in Uganda, how people, land and animals live in harmony and our Lesotho & Ethiopia DVD, highlighting different approaches, like keyhole gardens, used when working in upland areas. These information boxes give insights into nine year old Karabo’s life, they can be cut up and handed out to table groups to discuss the questions are posed on each one. Fun hopping game from Lesotho

A variation of Hop-Scotch played in Lesotho by Julia. The game involves shunting a shoe polish tin around a grid as you hop. Not as easy as it sounds, but really good fun! You could have a competition to see who can get to the end.

Healthy eating lessons from Africa

These two lessons fulfill the curriculum requirement to teach about food groups through reference to the story of a four year old boy from Lesotho called Mpho. They are part global Citizenship and part Science and encourage children to think about healthy eating and specifically the goal of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day - fitting into QCA - Teeth and eating and other areas in Science.
